Say

Say
Did you not
Like me
One time for the very first time
Open up your eyes
And look upon the place you were
To know as your own world
And your own home

Say
Had you not
Like me
Even if you don’t remember now
A time so long ago
When you did not know of wicked words
Like evil, pain and death

Say
Have you not
Like me
Once ran barefoot across a field
And felt the soft straws of the grass
That tickled you under your feet

Say
Have you not
Like me
Heard the birds that sing
And heard the roaring of the sea
And the laughter of the children playing by the brook

Say
Do you still recall
The very first time you saw snow
Or the first time that you saw the
Very first of the spring flowers be in bloom

Say
Do you still recall
The very first time that your tongue got
To taste the sweet raspberries in the glade
Or the first time that you rested
In the arms of someone that you truly love

Say
You might think that you are grown now
Cold and hardened by your life
But you must never forget
That in the deep root of your heart
Dwells forever within you
An innocent and frightened little child
