Poems
Under the Rose Arch
Author: Johan Maltesson
As the Leaves Are Falling Down
Birds head for warmer weather
The colours of the leaves are changing
Darkness falls upon the land
Autumn has arrived
As icy winds blow from the north
I remember you the most
Because it was just at this time
That you left, my sweetest friend
Now time has passed, so many days
But the wounds you caused upon my heart
Do not ever seem to heal
I still recall your deep green eyes
Our first gaze that magic day
The taste of your sweet strawberry lips
Your tongue so soft around my tongue
Your lovely, loving smile
Your head upon my shoulder
Your fingers squeezed so tight around mine
Never wanting to let go
You spoke right into my heart
Two straightedge veggies
Into Asian mystics
And crazy for gothic art
Reading poetry upon ragged couches
Shopping arty junk until we dropped
We were always together
Of course you were the one for me
You brought me into life
And you said to me
You would be forever mine
But your love died
I don’t know why
You just said you had to go
And so you left me all alone
On that rainy autumn day
Buildings, trees and streets and cars
Still look the same as then
But that old bench on which we kissed
Is cold and empty now
The pavement which we used to tread
Is crackled now, and hard
And the rain through which we used to stroll
Now just makes my body cold
But even as you’re now long gone
There is one last thing I want to say
That I will forever thankful be
For that time you gave to me
And as the leaves are falling down
My tears are falling too
